Fall has arrived. The leaves have barely started to change, but we've had our first frost warnings and the more sensitive plants are headed for the greenhouse. In game news, a title we pre-released at GenCon is now actually available. End of Days is yet another one of my "business card format" card games, and is a fun little title about trying to get your people off a doomed Earth while trying to stop everyone else from doing the same. This is of course complicated by the fact that you have to trade with the same folks you are trying to hinder in order to have any chance of winning. Nice bright graphics, simple rules, lots of Machiavellian interactions. You can download the game rules for free from RPGnow.com, and get a free play aid from this link.

Woo-hoo! I've been informed that WarpWorld has been nominated for an Ennie award. If you want to see what WarpWorld is and why it was nominated, check out the EABA and download a sample of it. I've had stuff nominated before, but never won. Maybe this time... Voting does not start until the 21st, but I encourage everyone to get out there, vote early and vote often. But only one vote per category, please.

In other EABA news, Rune Stryders is going to be released in a few weeks. This is an EABA adaptation of the title by the same name from Precis Intermedia. Rune Stryders is a massive 300+ page supplement set in the world of Rhun. Rhun is a young world, recently created by the gods to amuse themselves, but having lost its shine, they now ignore it. It is full of squabbling peoples who have learned to use the magical language of creation (runes) for their own ends, including warfare and the creation of animated war machines. Rune Stryders. You can snag a sample download from here.

Gray and rainy. No April Fools pranks planned for you. Sorry. Finally done my taxes, recovered from some conventions, now it's just back to work, the gaming kind and the kind you have to do when spring approaches and you have a chunk of rural real estate to maintain.

A sad day. It is with great regret that I heard of the passing of Gary Gygax today. If you play role-playing games, pause a minute and remember one of the people who made it happen. There will be enough memorials and testimonials elsewhere. Go play your character to the hilt this weekend.

A good day to be diseased. I've just released my most technically ambitious pdf yet, a re-release of the Black Death board game. This is a fun and historical board game where each player represents a different strain of disease (like bubonic plague), and whoever wipes out most of 14th century Europe wins. The trick is, it is a board game that you download. And it's not just a cheesy cardstock production. You put this game together and it will look as professional as anything you can buy in the store. You can click the small image to see what an assembled copy looks like, and click here to download a sample file with the rules and some of the components. If you do not have the resources or time to assemble your own copy, I'll be making pre-printed copies available. This will still require some assembly, but everything will be on the right quality and type of paper (glossy map, pre-cut cards, self-adhesive stock for the counter sheets, etc.). This will only be available direct, so if you need it, email me. And if you do want to buy the game, just click here.

Update: A couple minor bugs surfaced in the rules due to some late changes that did not cascade all the way through the cards, rules, etc. If your rules are version 1.0 you can download the fixed bits here. If you bought from RPGnow, you should have automatically gotten a link for the updated version.

I'll be doing demos and playtests of Black Death and other games at StellarCon in High Point NC in a few weeks, so if you're in the area, check it out.

And last, GamingReport.com has just posted reviews of WarpWorld, Altar of Reason and Dumbass!, with 4.5, 3.5 and 4.5 out of 5 stars, respectively. Not shabby.

Macho Women miniatures! Unavailable for quite a while, MSD Games is going to be re-releasing the original Macho Women miniatures. Their listing was not fully up at the time of this page update, but if you don't see what you want, email them and ask.

A sunny winter day. Not as cold as it should be, and not enough snow. Well, no snow at all. Maybe there is something to this global warming thing. Going to be a dry, fire-prone summer at this rate. Anyway, two new EABA products are out. WarpWorld and a companion supplement called Altar of Reason. WarpWorld is a revamping of one of my oldest titles, given an adjusted background and a (I think) whole new way of running an rpg campaign. Instead of a string of adventures in linear time, the campaign starts with green adventurers, and then jumps forward in their careers in increasing intervals, from months to years of downtime, allowing players to do an adventurer's entire career in less than a lifetime of playing. And you'll need the time, because WarpWorld has a built-in 300 year campaign arc, which the first generation of adventurers shape the foundations of. Hit the EABA page for the sample downloads.

Post-post-GenCon. GenCon was loads of fun and loads of work. As usual. But now it is back to the grind. Things are busy enough on several fronts that I am not sure if there is going to be a holiday release of WarpWorld, but I am hoping for it to be around then. All other projects are moving forward, including a few you've never heard of from me (and still won't, until they are closer to ready), long, long overdue projects like Fires of Heaven are moving forward again, the conversion of PIG's RuneStryders into EABA format progresses, and there is the little timewaster like the new item on the EABA freebies page. This was too far too much work for something I'm giving away, but what the heck, it was fun.

Pre-GenCon. Been busy, as usual. I'd like to thank the staff of both RPGnow and Lulu.com for assistance in getting the kinks worked out of the print on demand version of Code:Black. And yes, it is finally available, and looks great. It also got a nod in KoDT and I got to plug it a little bit in a "nuts and bolts" design article. For GenCon, I'll be bringing a handful of just about all the BTRC print on demand titles and a few of the older backstock items, along with a laptop to do CD burns of anything people might want. Of course, before GenCon there is Pennsic War,l so the next few weeks are going to be quite busy.

    What is BTRC?
BTRC is a little game company nestled in the Appalachian foothills, slowly and tediously handcrafting the finest role-playing games and supplements for a small audience of die-hard fans, and for new converts acquired through word-of-mouth advertising. We do it because we love the work. Though managing to get some non-game fiction published would be nice too...
